Hakuda (白打, "White Hits") is a form of Shinigami combat based on advanced spells. is a close-combat style of fighting, in which one is unarmed and uses only one's body, and is one of the four basic fighting styles of the Shinigami. High-speed Taijutsu (体術, "Body Skill") attacks are used to overwhelm the opponent. Physical strength and skill is determined by this class. It seems to be a combination of several martial arts.

The foremost practitioners of this technique are those assigned to the Executive Militia of the Onmitsukidō.

Classification

Hakuda combatants can be classified into different tiers depending on their skill and experience. This also takes into consideration the natural skill and ability to learn new techniques:

Master Hakuda Combatants

Masters of this art can take on average armed opponents and those many times their size easily, and, as mentioned before, the Onmitsukidō are the best-trained Shinigami in Hakuda. The 2nd Division captain and their 3rd seat, or head of the Detention Unit, are most often the premier masters. In particular, the Detention Unit head must prove their mastery of Hakuda to even be considered for the position because the Detention Unit's prison, the Nest of Maggots, is a weapons-free zone. Anyone who enters must be able to, or be under the protection of one able to, completely protect themselves with only their bare hands.

Expert Hakuda Combatants

Experts of this art can take on average armed opponents and those many times their size easily, and, as mentioned before, the Onmitsukidō are the best-trained Shinigami in Hakuda. Those of this level are among the seated officers of the Gotei 13. They are well versed in hand-to-hand combat in instances where they are lacking in a weapon or need the use of the skill to give them an edge in battle. While not masters, an expert is more than capable of handling themselves in a physical altercation.

Hakuda Combatants

Average users of this art can take on average armed opponents and put up a decent effort against those many times their size. Those of this level are among the seated and unseated officers of the Gotei 13. They are well versed in hand-to-hand combat in instances where they are lacking in a weapon or need the use of the skill to give them an edge in battle.

Hakuda Practitioners

Casual users of this art can take on average armed opponents. Those of this level are among the seated and unseated officers of the Gotei 13. They are capable in hand-to-hand combat in instances where they are lacking in a weapon or need the use of the skill to give them an edge in battle. Practitioners are not the most likely to engage in hand-to-hand combat, but they can use it as an option.

Techniques

Hakuda techniques can be classified into three categories: Seme (攻め, "Attacking"), Kakutō (格闘, "Grappling") and Geigeki (迎撃, "Countering"). In the hands of a capable fighter, Hakuda combatants can overpower their opponents without the use of their Zanpakutō or its special abilities. Each technique can vary in power and effect depending the user's physical stats.

Seme Techniques

Seme (攻め, "Attacking") techniques consist of primarily offensive attacks that use the entire body as a weapon. While it has many hand and foot techniques, Seme Techniques also employ other parts of the body such as the head, elbows, knees and shoulders:

Technique Name Information
Tsukiyubi (撞指, "Thrust Fingers") The practitioner extends the index and middle fingers of one hand in unison while they are in contact with an opponent, who is sent flying several meters away. The practitioner does so by channeling their spiritual pressure through their arm and into their fingertips, releasing the pressure with explosive force. This attack varies depending on the level of Reiryoku the user has, with larger amounts able to repel opponents instantly. There doesn't seem to be any motion when releasing the force. A practitioner simply places their fingers against an opponent to execute the attack. Captain Shunsui was able to send Chad bouncing off the ground several meters by using this non-lethal technique.
Kazaguruma (風車, "Windmill") Throwing their body up into the air, the practitioner makes a shearing movement with their legs, allowing them to move one leg in front of the other, before performing a devastating kick which sends the target flying away with tremendous force. Suì-Fēng performed this attack against Ggio Vega and was able to send the Arrancar into the side of building.
Tesshō (鉄掌, "Iron Palm") A simple, yet effective open palm strike which can effortlessly shatter a Hollow's head with a single strike. Tessai was observed performing this technique against a large hollow, and easily destroyed the top half of the creature's head, killing it instantly as the remaining body bounced off the ground and blood spurted out from the open wound.
Ikkotsu (一骨, "Single Bone") A powerful punch used by Yamamoto against Wonderweiss. Using this technique, Yamamoto was able to destroy much of Wonderweiss' abdomen and sending him flying along a city street and into a building, destroying it. The user of this technique focuses their physical power into a single hand, curling his fingers into a tight fist, and thrusting the attack forward to deal devastating damage due to the attacks incredible force. Used by practitioners with large levels of physical strength, they are able to soundly defeat most opponents who aren't aided by instant regeneration or other abilities similar to that.
Sōkotsu (双骨, "Double Bone") Stronger than Ikkotsu, Sōkotsu is a powerful two-fisted punch where the user extends both arms towards a single opponent, their fists colliding with their midsection in two different points. The palms of each fist face each other, and one is above the other. Once it makes contact, deadly force is released through these two extensions and travel into the opponent, outright destroying them in a single blow, killing them instantly. This technique was used by Yamamoto against Wonderweiss, with the attack shattering the Arrancar's body completely and killing him in the process.
Kagamibiraki (鏡開, "Mirror Opening") A particularly gruesome and lethal technique that utilizes the practioner's raw strength to perform. The practitioner will first thrust both arms forward to pierce the target's skin with their fingers. After puncturing their target, the practitioner rips their opponent in half through sheer physical strength. Visored Love performed this technique against a large Gillian-class Hollow by smashing through its mask and their tearing its head in to two halves, watching its lifeless body fall to the streets below of fake Karakura Town.
Sensui Garanchō (潜水伽藍鳥, "Diving Pelican") A Hakuda technique in which the user channels their strength into a diving heel kick to deal incredible damage. Captain Saizō Fujibayashi performs this maneuver when he's positioned himself above a target, brings one leg straight up and then comes crashing down on top of his opponent with the heel of his foot. The sheer force of the attack is capable of driving his opponents into the ground if standing, while releasing a small explosion and leaving behind a crater. This level of destruction ranges due to the strength level of the user, but Saizō is known to cave in large hollow's heads with this attack and knocking out stronger opponents with one kick. Saizō has also shown the ability to use this technique during a counterattack by leaping into the air the moment a target attacks him and then coming down from above.
Ryūsei (流星, "Falling Star") A variation of the Sensui Garanchō technique used by Lieutenant Kenzō Takeshi. A rushing attack where the practitioner leaps into the air, flipping forward bringing one foot over their head and then dropping it on to an opponent's own head with great force. Typically, Kenzō uses this technique on a downed opponent and has shown to have enough power to knock his target unconscious with a single strike. Given Kenzō's tremendous level of strength, he can inflict bone crushing damage, drawing blood in the process, and can send an airborne opponent crashing back down to the ground while cratering the area in which they land. This attack combines speed, agility and precision to execute and is considered much more complex to land than it seems.

Kakutō Techniques

Kakutō (格闘, "Grappling") techniques consist primarily of grappling and submission techniques. These techniques can take advantage of a practitioner's natural strength and speed, while also using other assets such as arm reach to trap an opponent in some form of limb locking submission or a high impact throwing maneuver:

Technique Name Information
Taketonbo (竹蜻蛉, "Bamboo Dragonfly") Holding their hand out to the side, the practitioner performs a simple but effective throw, which violently flips their victim upside down. The victim lands heavily on their back, knocking the wind out of them. If performed by an experienced combatant, they can make the execution of this technique seem effortless.
Tonhihinage (飛んヒヒ投げ, "Flying Baboon Throw") A grappling maneuver that can be executed either on the ground or in the air. The practitioner leaps forward and wraps their arm around the front or back of a target's neck, locking the grip so they are unable to escape. Then using their strength, they will begin to spin their body so their opponent is swinging through the air. The practitioner then makes several full rotations, allowing to gain momentum and once they're ready will release their hold and launch the opponent. If on the ground, the practitioner merely tosses the opponent with incredible force so that they can slam against a surface or into another group of opponents. If in the air, the practitioner typically spins enough times so that when they release their opponent they come rocketing back towards the ground and smash against the floor in a small explosion.

Geigeki Techniques

Geigeki (迎撃, "Countering") techniques consist primarily of countering an opponent's move through a combination of defensive stances and grappling maneuvers. This allows any combatant the ability to dodge or deflect an opponent, while delivering their own attack in one fluid motion:

Technique Name Information
Takigoi (滝鯉, "Waterfall Carp") The practitioner utilizes this technique to create an opening in their opponents defense. When the target kicks out, the user blocks the attack with their forearm. When the foe moves to kick them with their other foot, the practitioner grabs the blocked foot with their free hand while simultaneously blocking the second attack with their legs. The user subsequently traps the opponents second foot between their legs. With both legs trapped, the target is now open to attack and the user takes advantage of the situation to attack with their free hand.
